Fish & Chip Reviews

The Tally Ho, North Finchley, London, N12 0BP, 21 November 2014

Good evening all.  Tonight is the night.  The revenge visit to The Tally Ho.

Expectation is high, we are earlier than the last week to avoid disappointment.

Right! Fish and Chips ordered, Amstel served in Carlsberg glass. Good beer as I recalled.

The dining room is buzzing with people chasing the deal of Fish Friday.  Then, OMG, the ACTION!!!

An aggressive OAP started to complain of slow serving foods (I think … as he was shouting difficult to hear exactly what it was), he quickly turned into abusing staff.  He was fuelled by alcohol.  A respectable OAP couple behind us quickly left the table to the other part of the dining room.  Wow.  This is PROPER!

The event went on for ages…. finally they left, then we realized we were waiting for our fish and chips for absolutely ages…. in fact, nearly 1 hour.  We politely (after the OAP event, we were extra polite) asked, they admitted they  have forgotten!

Finally arrived!!
Finally arrived!! Served in lovely Burleigh dish.

1. Fish 6/10.  Good crunchy batter integrated well with fish.  Fish was slightly small but hey, £6.25 with a pint. Shame tartar sauce was served in a crappy paper cup.
2. Chips 6/10.  Frozen chips though properly deep fried, made them pleasant enough.
3. Mushy pea 4/10.  Not properly mushed but sort of waterly.  No extra twist whatsoever.  Then again, shall I expect that from this price?

We were offered free dessert and another drink for the delay.  Staff were all nice, they do not deserve the abuse in any circumstance.  The sight of an aggressive OAP was not pretty.  Yes, it was cheap night and food was fine (I give total score of 6/10).  Though I don’t think I rush back there anytime soon.

Good night…
