Good evening, I am honoured to be chosen from the many to be a guest critic for one post only, I hope I can maintain the saturated fat odyssey and not lose too many subscribers.
So here goes……after one or two fizzy drinks at the Baker Street Wetherspoons, (£3.25 a pint), myself and a few friends from work arrived at the above renowned fish and chip restaurant “Seashell of Lisson Grove”
The establishment has a take away section and dine in. On entering the dine-in section you may be thinking its already time to call it a knight.

We were shown to our huge oval table surrounded by all sorts of fish, (the living variety).
Apparently, you are not allowed to choose one of them for your meal, so instead I ordered Haddock and chips for £24 with a side serving of mushy peas plus a pint of good old London Pride (£7) which was a hard reality compared to the £3.25 at the aforementioned Wethers.

We also had curry sauce and tartare sauce which our Ukranian waiter said was made on the premises and also tomato sauce which went untouched.
One of our party had been coming here since he was a small child and his brother had even worked as head fryer many years ago.
The food arrived and I could tell instantly that both the fish and the chips were freshly fried.
The batter on the fish was perfect, not too thick and the Haddock tasted great and not too greasy.
Nicely garnished with Parsley. You can also have salad, mash potato or new potatoes instead of chips if you like.
The chips were perfectly fried and I even had crunchy bits which added to the texture of the meal.
The mushy peas reminded me of school dinners – I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing!
I also had a taste of the curry sauce which I found a bit too sweet and watery.

Other choices include Sea Bass, Dover Sole, Fish Pie and Scampi, although we all opted for either the Cod and Haddock. I preferred the Haddock which has a slightly stronger taste.
Portion size was large enough but not massive but there are sweets available for around £7 such as their signature Seashell Apple Pie with cream or ice-cream. The restaurant was lovely and seemed to be quite newly refurbished, but quite empty for that 9pm on a Friday. Also, they have a large drinks bar in the centre of the room decorated with a huge bronze Squid with it’s curly tentacles reaching for the Gin!
I have just checked the Wetherspoons menu online and Cod and Chips is £11.11 there, and it was packed!
All in all, a great night and will deffo be back!
Chips: 8/10 Classic chip shop quality.
Fish: 8/10 Great Haddock taste, not too greasy, fish flaky.
Mushy Peas: 4 out of 10 Quite bland, maybe I could have added the tomato sauce in there.
