Yey! Friday again, you find your favorite fish and chips critic in even more south than Tooting. Here I am at Sutton The Cock & Bull, it is a beer time.
Beck’s Vier is normally a safe option. From my experience it always served at a certain standard (i.e., “merit”) wherever I am. Here, flat, but not flat enough to take back for new one, not greatly cold but just about enough to crunch my thirst, not bad enough to take back for new one. AHHHHH, score the average of average 5/10.
Wow, “London Pride Battered” , sounds good, of course this is Fuller’s pub, love your dedication. Good suburban pricing too at £9.25.
1. Fish 4/10. Soooo average. Fish was slightly tasteless, slightly dry, slightly too hard batter. Nothing indicates me this is London Pride.
2. Chips 2/10 Clearly frozen chips. No taste.
3. Peas 7/10 Because I was disappointed already with fish and chips, did not expected peas to be good. However, this was a little delight. Very buttery, fresh bright green colour, it is evident of homemade. It would excel if there was a hit of mint and slight acidity. However, I could say that would be for my liking. And to be fair, it was exactly what menu describes.
Overall, disappointing 4/10. As you may noticed, everything was “slightly” wrong but not bad enough to make complaint. I could not finish the dish. I must stress though portion size was not the issue. Overall, tasteless, dry, started to feel munching cardboard in half way. This is the type of fish and chips served a decade ago. You have to move on mate.
My fish and chips critic journey continues. Good night!
Pisces next to surb station, B swears by em ie: those chips burnt my bloody mouth… But seriously they good…an only 7.50!
Thanks for your comment Simon, I will check them out, but do they serve beer?
