Yo! It has been a long time since – last post was February 2026 – I had to confess, I actually had at least 2 x fish and chips since….. I know my fans are eager to see my action, I can only apologise. Tonight, we are in the famous London mini chain of Poppies, Fish & Chips – I always wanted to go ever since they opened in its fancy building in 2013. I am excited!

Great menu – lots of fish choices – I chose something different – Skate and chips for £26.50

Fish : 7/10 : Batter was quite thick but really crunchy, well executed, I can tell they do use clean oil. However, I am not 100% sure if skate is best cooked in deep fry – unlike battered white fish (with thick flesh), skate flesh is not thick enough to enjoy marriage (inside of your mouth) between juiciness and soft texture of flesh and crunchy batter. The ratio of batter is too much for the flesh in any given bite.
Chips 6/10 : Love the portion size! Having said that we should probably expect for £26.50. Chips themselves are freshly cooked and present, but I won’t say exceptional. Also not seasoned at all so we do our own salt and pepper. But you could argue this is the norm for fish and chips.
Mushy peas 9/10 : Wow, delicious, definitely homemade (not from tin – which you could always tell), no fancy addition such as mint, etc. but even from small mouthful I can tell this dish is advocating “PEAS”!!!
Restaurant is decorated with full of St. Georges flag’s, enhasising “English and British”. People serving us were all friendly, pleasant and lovey – all of them did not look like so called typical “white English and British” serving me (not white English/British) – Thank you so much for your hard work!
There are so many fishes I need to try from there – I will definitely be back!
Good night!
